Spring Wine Dinner with Martedi Cellars

  • Crudo & Cotto 2717 North Proctor Street Tacoma, WA, 98407 United States (map)

We are welcoming spring with a set of wine dinners both in Olympia, Sunday the 23rd of April, and Tacoma, Sunday the 30th of April, with a very fresh five-course dinner full of interesting dishes. Our focus will be cheese, with several different expressions, variations and uses, as well as the freshest vegetables in various combinations.

For the wine side, we welcome Martedi Cellars, and its wine maker Joseph Miglino, whose ancestry is lost in one of the most beautiful parts of Italy: the Partenopea, Naples area. We will present a couple of fresh releases just out of the winery for us, and a few fun interpretations of some of the classic Italian Grapes of Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. Plus, who knows which other surprises might find their way to our tables . . . I have been enchanted also by the very rare occasion to present a classic Tuscan dessert wine, the Vin Santo, that I’ve very rarely seen any US or foreign wine maker challenge himself with. The timing is especially delightful, since the name of the wine, “Holy Wine”, comes from the period until which the grapes are let dry before being pressed, the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. Please join us for this very fun and drink worthy event.

Martedi Winery is a small winery located in the city of Monroe in Washington State. 2010 marked the fourth vintage for this fast growing winery. The winemaker is Joseph Miglino and he has over 25 years of experience in the wine industry. This winery is operated, primarily, by Joseph, his brother John, and with family and selected friends.

“Martedi” is the Italian word for Tuesday and this day has a special meaning to them. They have named their company Second Tuesday to commemorate the fact that for years, all of the Miglino brothers would get together on the second Tuesday of each month to visit, eat pasta, drink wine, play cards, lie to each other, smoke cigars, discuss family and just spend time together. This grew to include their closest friends and any visiting relatives. When it came time to form a winery, there was no other choice but to name it; Martedi Winery!
